Fitting:

Jim Couch graduates from the Serotta Elements Fitting School 2/26/06

Jim is now a certified Serotta "Trained Fit Specialist" in addition to his training from Fit Kit Sytems. The Serotta Professional Bike Fitting School is the most in depth and comprehensive fitting school available. The three day training included the biomechanics of cycling, body alignment and proper cycling posture, basic skeletal and muscular terminology, muscle firing sequences, the significance of flexibility and fitness in performance and fit. Jim was trained in Serotta's comprehensive fit system and use of the Serotta Sizecycle. A portion of the training also delt with TT/triathlon positioning and the fundamentals of Aerodynamics. A large portion of the training was devoted to hands on training using the Serotta Fitting System. With this training in hand and our vast years of fitting experience we are confident that you will find no one more qualified to help you when fitting your bicycle. Call or visit the shop and find out what a difference a professional bicycle fitter can do for you.

The Spoke & Sprocket fitting studio.

In order to get the most out of any bicycle it must fit properly. We take pride in our ability to properly fit a bicycle to the customer. When your bike is properly fitted, you are less prone to injury, more comfortable, and better able to enjoy riding.

The best time to determine sizing and fit is BEFORE you buy a bicycle. While we are happy to work with you in order to fit your existing bike, many compromises can be avoided by determing proper dimensions before purchasing a bike. In many cases the dimensions of an existing bike are so far off that there is no way we can achieve an effecient, comfortable fit. Having a good set of measurments prior to purchasing a bike can avoid these problems.

At Spoke & Sprocket we take great pride in our ability to fit the bicycle to the rider. Whenever we sell a new bicycle we take the time to properly size and adjust the bicycle to fit the rider. When fitting a bicycle we consider not only the rider's size, but their style of riding and comfort on the bicycle

Production bicycle fit

This service is only available to customers who are purchasing a bicycle from Spoke & Sprocket. A SET of body measurements, rider history and goals is taken. Proper frame size, seat height, knee over pedal, handlebar width, handlebar height and stem length are all set. The riders position is evaluated on the bike, taking into consideration the body measurements, riding style, and the type of riding the cyclist participates in.

NOTE Fitting does not include the labor to make alterations to the bike such as adding new handlebars or stems.

Fit Kit™ RAD™ cleat rotational adjustment

Cleat position on the shoe is set using the Fit Kit Rotational Adjustment Device. This sets the customers cleat in line with the crank/pedal so that the leg is working in a neutral position. This will help increase power output and reduce the risk of injury, particularly to the knees. Seat height and, and knee over pedal position are checked and set. Spoke & Sprocket is equipped to do Rotational Adjustments on most popular pedal systems including Look™, Campagnolo™, Shimano™, and all SPD™ type pedal systems. For an additional charge We can also shim to correct for leg length discrepancy based on your medical practitioner’s advice and wedge the cleats to correct for varus or valgus of the feet.

Fit Kit™ measurement

The Fit Kit™ set of measurements is taken and recommendations are reviewed with the customer. Frame size, stem and bar dimensions, and crank length recommendations are discussed with the rider. The customer will receive a copy of the measurements and fitting recommendations. These measurements can be used to shop for a production bike, or select a pro quality frame. The The Fit Kit™ measurement is ideal for the customer who wants to shop elsewhere for their bike.

Note: The Fit Kit™ measurements do not include any on the bicycle fitting.

Existing bicycle fit

Spoke & Sprocket will fit your existing bike to you. Frame size, seat height, knee over pedal, handlebar width, handlebar height and stem length are all evaluated. The riders position is evaluated on the bike, taking into consideration Fit Kit measurements (if available), riding style, and the type of riding the cyclist participates in

NOTE Fitting does not include the labor to make alterations to the bike such as adding new handlebars or stems.

Serotta fitting system

This is the ultimate in fitting service. Based on sound research and principals, combined with days of intensive training the Serotta fitting system is the most advanced in the world today.

Our Serotta-certified Fit Technician begins by getting to know you in a one on one interview. Why do you ride? How do you ride? What is your injury history? Any personal asymmetries, such as one leg longer than the other? Any problems with your old bike? Lastly, what are your goals and aspirations as a rider?

Next, your flexibility and core strength are assessed todetermine your range of motion, and your ability to comfortably hold a position. The aim is to build a bike that moves with you, within the range of your strengths and limitations, not against you.

When you get on the Serotta Size Cycle, our infinitely adjustable sizing tool, or your bicycle our fit specialist will observe your postural habits, see your pedal stroke in action, judge how relaxed you are in the saddle and how easily you’re able to draw in large volumes of air. Step by step, we work with you to piece together a complete picture of you as a cyclist.

We study your positional coordinates as you spin the pedals, looking for the place where your movement fires most effectively – where power, endurance, comfort, and aerodynamics, are optimized. Following the kinetic chain, we can then accurately determine the coordinates your fit will be based upon.

There’s no detour to achieving your signature ride. Prepare to invest a couple of hours in the fit process alone. Considering it’s a mini-Master’s degree in becoming a more enlightened rider, you’ll have to agree it’s time well spent.

The moment of truth is when you take your bike out on the road. In an instant you’ll know this is miles beyond your old expectations of fit. Your bike is nothing less than an extension of your body.

Fittings are done by appointment only and priced based on services performed and time. Please call us to schedule and appointment or get more information.
